‘Leaving the Cave’ is dedicated to philosophical method. The format is based on a targeted sequence of questions, followed by a discussion of the salient points arising. Questions are seen not only as conducive to answers, but as a philosophical lynchpin in their own right. Method is thus the unraveling of questions (‘what is being asked’) behind all manners of statements, propositions, theories, truth claims, belief systems and worldviews.
We are experimenting with a slight change to the format:
First hour will be an interview format followed by a discussion of the questions that emerge and an examination of the questioning methodology itself..We will expand on this in the afternoon with a broader discussion.
This group has evolved to concentrate on Socratic questioning during the morning session followed by a dialogue based on a question which emerges and concluding with a dialogue looking at more general issues around questions such as assumptions.
